Mega Jump is One Year Old Today! Here’s a Birthday Gift!

May 5, 2011   //   by Nick Coombe   //   Uncategorized  //  13 Comments

It’s hard to believe, but Mega Jump was released one year ago today . The original version of Mega Jump took just a month to make, had only one character (Redford of course!), no stages, no bounce, break or spike blocks, no store and no upgradable powerups.  It also wasn’t free! But there was something special about the game that people loved, and we’ve been updating the game ever since based on your great ideas and requests. Here’s the first Mega Jump announcement from way back in April 2010

The More the Merrier

Since then – over the course of 13 updates – Redford has been joined by 14 new friends, discovered dozens of awesome powerups, taken on new enemies and challenges and found the secret at the end of the Universe! Not only that but over 14 million people around the world have played Mega Jump, and thousands more are joining in every day!

A Birthday Song

What better way to celebrate Redford’s Birthday than with his own special song? For those of you who have been asking for the Mega Jump Theme Song, here it is finally, free to download!

Keep On Jumping!

The party’s just getting started! Updates 14 and 15 are just around the corner, bursting with new features, including 30 brand new coin patterns, a new hazard, and in Update 15, a brand new adventure

Stay tuned!

Mega Jump Update 14 Preview: 30 Brand New Challenges, See Your Progress & Get Shrinkified!

Apr 30, 2011   //   by Nick Coombe   //   Uncategorized  //  1 Comment

The new Updates keep on rolling with Update 14 for iOS, which will include a staggering 30 brand new challenges to take on! Swim through seas of stars, wind your way along trails of blue coins and take on devious enemies and the always tricky Trickster coins who, if they had sleeves, would have even more tricks up them! Tricky!

That Shrinking Feeling

But watch out! There’s a new danger in the mix! In a puff of green vapor the Shrinkify potion will shrink you down to a quarter of your normal size! Coins and enemies will loom over you, and you’ll have to aim carefully so you don’t fall through the gaps! It might not be all bad though – maybe there are places only tiny monsters can reach?

Making Progress

Speaking of reaching new places – by popular request we’ve added a progress meter on the pause screen that can show you how far you need to go to reach the next stage, so no more guessing!

Apr 29, 2011   //   by Nick Coombe   //   Uncategorized  //  3 Comments

Update 13 is now ready to roll… Again! After running into a few problems with “lucky” Update 13, we pulled it back into the garage for some retooling. Many late nights and buckets of coffee later, and Update 13 is now ready to hit the streets. Here’s what’s new:

New Character: Pepper!

  • Who says penguins can’t fly? Pepper just wants to stretch her wings and reach higher than any penguin has before!
  • You asked for it: we made this character based on another very successful Facebook poll!

  • Thanks to some fantastic advances from OpenFeint, we’re now able to backup your progress, unlocked items and Mega Points to your OpenFeint account!
  • If you haven’t already created an OpenFeint account, do it now in the settings menu!
  • Never lose your progress again!

Thanks for your patience and our apologies to anyone that was affected by the bug in the previous version of the update.

Hot on the heels of Update 13, we have some absolutely fantastic new features coming in Updates 14 and 15, so look out for more news about that very soon!

How to Show the Network Activity Indicator

Dec 16, 2009   //   by Derek van Vliet   //   Uncategorized  //  1 Comment

Screen shot 2009-12-16 at 10.14.26 PMThe network activity indicator is like the UIActivityIndicatorView we previously discussed, only it sits on the status bar, it is smaller, and believe it or not, it is even easier to manipulate. It’s the little rotating wheel of bars (pictured right) that shows up on the status bar whenever your iPhone is accessing the network.

Show It

If you would like to let your users know that your iPhone app is currently swapping data with the network, you can do so with this simple line of code:

[UIApplication sharedApplication].networkActivityIndicatorVisible = YES;

Hide It

You guessed it: once you’re done showing it, to hide it again, just set the same UIApplication property to NO like so.

[UIApplication sharedApplication].networkActivityIndicatorVisible = NO;

Apple Banking Voodoo

Oct 17, 2009   //   by Matt Coombe   //   Uncategorized  //  4 Comments

I thought I might share a small hiccup I ran into while submitting our banking information to Apple through iTunesConnect.

Most of the process went very smoothly until I was asked for my bank’s “Transit Number”. Our company is located in Toronto and so in Canada this is a 5 digit number that is unique for each branch of a given bank. I duly typed this in but it was immediately rejected when the form was sent to Apple. I got an “enter valid transit number” warning.

After several phone calls to my branch and bank helpline I was no closer to resolving the problem. They told me what I already knew, that the transit number is a 5 digit code. I sent an email to but did not expect a reply any time soon (although I did get some help from them over email a day later). After banging my head against the wall and some Google searching I found the real deal on what Apple is expecting Canadian iPhone developers to input for the Transit Number.

Apple is actually looking for the electronic Routing Transit Number which consists of three values with no spaces or dashes:

A leading zero followed by the 3 digits of your bank institution number followed by the 5 digit branch transit number (also known as the branch ID).

You can find your bank institution number here.

Hopefully this will save some of you the frustration I ran into!
